Post-ICANN57 Report of the At-Large Community

What Happened at ICANN57?

The ALAC approved the Charter of the Cross Community Working Group (CCWG) on Auction Proceeds and would name a Co-Chair of the group. The ALAC has also decided to continue being a Chartering Organization of CCWG on Internet Governance.

Endorsed by the ALAC, the Second At-Large Summit (ATLAS II) Recommendations Implementation Report was transmitted to the ICANN Board. It marks a conclusion of the two-year endeavor implementing the 43 Recommendations stated in the ATLAS II Declaration.

ITEMS, the independent examiner of the At-Large Review, shared with the Community their preliminary findings about the mission, purposes, and the structural effectiveness of the Community. A community-initiated analysis paper on the At-Large Community structure was also published.

In terms of outreach, the Asian, Australian, and Pacific Islands (APRALO) held successful Capacity Building Sessions for its At-Large Structure (ALS) members, as well as a joint Showcase and Networking event. In addition, At-Large had a lively discussion with the NextGen students about policy activities in the Community.

At-Large activities in ICANN57 ended with successful RALO and ALAC Development sessions on the last day.

Next Steps

In early December 2016, the Draft Report of the Independent Review of the At-Large Community is scheduled to be published for the consideration by the At-Large Review Working Party. As a complementary effort to the At-Large Review, the ALAC will further analyze the effectiveness of ALSes on the basis of the ALAC-RALO-ALS Structure Analysis paper.

In the regions, the Latin American and Caribbean Islands Regional At-Large Organization (LACRALO), the North American Regional At-Large Organization (NARALO), and the African Regional At-Large Organization (AFRALO) will be busy planning their General Assemblies, which will take place in January 2017, April 2017, and November 2017 respectively.
